Rules

 

Eligibility:

The program is open to the students from all technical colleges of India (Graduate and Undergraduate students)

Participants may compete as a team of minimum 2 and maximum 4 students.

  • Participants need not be members of IEEE to apply and submit their proposals.
  • If a project is granted funds, teams must include an IEEE Student Member in the lead role, other team members are preferred to be IEEE Student members but not mandatory. [All team members must be at least 18 years of age.].

The students must play the primary role in the problem-solving; however, they may receive technical and financial assistance from others. Please note that the intent and spirit of this initiative is for the students, not others, to solve a problem.

Persons acting as team mentors or in a mentorship role must limit the level of support provided to general guidance and must not contribute in any other form that might be considered original authorship, or in any way that may enable claims of rights or ownership to the submitted entries. In no case will work-on-behalf of teams or individuals be allowed.

Proposal submission:

Proposals must be submitted using the form provided on the competition Web site youngengineers.ieeebangalore.org/ Requirements include the following:

  • Project title
  • Problem description
  • Solution
  • Impact on humanity or a community
  • Primary leader with name and contact information, namely Full name, college/university, address, phone number and email address. Other major student contributors and their contributions.
  • Other contributors

Incomplete entries are void and will not be eligible.

Deadlines:

Proposal submission: 15 March 2012

Notification: 12 April 2012

Initial progress report: 12 June 2012

Intermediate progress report: 12 July 2012

Final report: 12 August 2012

 

Selection criteria:

  • The winners shall be selected based on the innovation, results expected and their impact on humanity, or, on a community.
  • Sustainability, reusability, transportability of the results to other parts of the world, entrepreneurship, originality, creativity and leadership shall be important but secondary evaluation factors.

 

Project funding: 2 categories:

  • 1) In collaboration with IEEE Engineering Projects in Community service, AIYEHUM is able to support projects with higher budget requirements to the tune of INR 50000 – INR 75000. More details about IEEE EPICS can be found in this link (http://www.ieee.org/go/epics-high). Such projects are expected to have strong practical application and collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organization for implementation of technology / product developed2) Prototype development and concept n feasibility demonstration type projects will be funded upto INR 10000. Notification of selection:

Selected teams will be notified by phone and/or email within 30 days of the Submission Deadline. If any winner does not acknowledge receipt of the grant within seven days after being notified that he or she is selected, another team will be chosen using the same procedure specified above.

 

Report submissions:

  • All the selected teams have to submit 3 reports: initial, intermediate and the final report.
  • All the reports will be considered for the evaluation.
  • The report forms should be downloaded from the project website. Duly filled forms should be emailed before the submission deadlines.
  • The report must include photographs of the prototype being developed.

Selection of the winners:

  • Top contestants ( first,  second and third prizes) will be selected by a panel of experts from IEEE Bangalore Section and IEEE EPICS based on the results achieved and the impact on humanity, or on a community.
  • The top contestant team may be sent by the Bangalore Section to present their work in an IEEE Humanitarian Conference.
  • The winners will be awarded with prizes and certificates in a suitable ceremony.
